30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 12

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 12

Day 12 - If I Could Turn Back Time We all may wish for a do-over button, or at least the opportunity to talk to your younger self (maybe shake some sense into your self). If you had the chance to talk to your 16 year old self, what would your message be? Our lists of things we wish we did or didn't do would be rather long, or maybe that is just me.   Take out a picture of your younger self and come up with the advice that wish you had received at that age. How would it have made a difference? Granted we are not the sum total of our past experiences, and some may make the argument that those experiences were necessary teachers. Let 's put that aside, what lessons would you have rather not to have learned the hard way? What lessons would have made your life a bit better if you had heard and followed the advice?   Maybe we can't do it over. Maybe we wouldn't even if we could...but, maybe one of our descendants when given the same options might be able to make a Continue reading

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 11

Day 11 - That's Hilarious What do you think is funny? Does slapstick put you in stitches or leave you scratching your head? Or do you have a drier sense of humor and love a good pun - especially when not everyone catches the subtlety of your jest? Whether it is nature or nurture we all have a sense of humor that makes up who we are. One of the things I miss most about my dad is his sense of humor. He was full of witticisms, jokes, puns, and humorous stories. He told them all with a twinkle in eye and a devious little smirk. Over Christmas, my son and I were remembering one of grandpa's jokes and he was suddenly there with us in spirit. So, what make you smile? What makes you laugh out loud? Have you ever laughed until you cried or snorted? Share the laughter. Bring a smile to future generations. If nothing else, they will laugh about what you thought was funny, or, they will recognize their own sense of humor in yours. Make them smile and write it down. Better yet - get Continue reading

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 10

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 10

Day 10 - The Wind Beneath My Wings I want to celebrate the mentors, teachers, the person who inspired me. The people who were there at the important crossroads in my life. It may have been just the right words at just the right time, it may have been a shoulder to cry on or a kick in the butt. It may have been encouragement when all seemed dark. A quiet example or a very vivid one. Those people who gave us a gentle nudge or a GIANT shove that helped make us who we are need to be recorded. I wish I knew who my ancestor's mentors and inspiration were, wouldn't you? Record who your mentors, inspirations, your champions are/were and what they do/did to make a difference in your life. Want to feel really good? Share this with them or their descendants if they are no longer alive. I know they would be so grateful to know that they had a part to play in your life. I have so many great people who continue to inspire me,what a difference they have played in my life. I try and pay it Continue reading

Day 2: Life’s Master File

Day 2: Life’s Master File

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable - Day 2 Here we go, now let’s get things off to a good start. Yesterday we gathered the records of our life. Now, what are we going to do with that information and the other items we shall be putting together? We need to have a system, a master file to be able to access, use, find, share at a moment’s notice. I am suggesting several options on how to organize and set up your master files, but they are by no means the only way. Option 1 – OneNote OneNote is a now a free program that is available on both PC and Mac and is available at OneNote.com, if you don’t already have it on your computer as it is part of the Word Office Suite. OneNote is an electronic notebook, with page dividers and tabs. An added plus is that you can access it not only offline, but can access it through any computer or smartphone through the cloud. You can create numerous notebooks, share them with others or being able to read them anywhere is extremely convenient and Continue reading

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 1: The Gathering

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable – Day 1: The Gathering

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable Challenge – Day 1: The Gathering   Welcome to The Pachyderm Project’s challenge! I hope that this project will be just the beginning of your making your life not only well-documented, but making it memorable in every way! Alice Waters once said, “This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive.”  Gathering: We are going to start off by gathering everything into one place that documents, identifies and names us. Where are you right now? Appreciating who we are, where we are at, what we have allows us to acknowledge our blessings and also to open our heart and minds for new opportunities. Taking inventory is a necessary step to growth, but also to records who we are, right now. Items to Gather: Birth certificate Personal Id (driver’s license, passport, social security card, school id, etc.) Marriage certificate, divorce papers, adoption Continue reading

30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable Challenge

Announcing the "30 Days to Becoming Unforgettable Challenge." Starting January 1st, we are kicking off the challenge. 2015 is the year to start living a well-documented life. What exactly is a well-documented life? Let me ask you, do you keep a journal, a memoir or have you written your life’s greatest stories? Have you labeled your photos or gathered all of your vital records for you and your children? What is the recorded legacy that you will leave for the next generation? Many genealogist’s do a great job documenting and sourcing the lives of their ancestors, but their own life - not so much. So join the challenge for 30 days in January, where every day you will receive a task to complete for the day. Learn from others and share your success. Begin the year off right and record your life’s story! Share your progress and learn from others! Continue reading
